The idea for a radio station was conceived by French Camp Academy President H. Richard Cannon while he was on the mission field in New Guinea. He wanted a radio station with a three-fold mission:
- To promote the philosophy of French Camp Academy.
- To teach our young people hands-on radio.
- To put back into French Camp Academy all income over expenses.
WFCA supports French Camp Academy’s philosophy by providing our listeners with the daily message of God’s love as we work and worship together.
Since we went on the air in 1984, WFCA has trained hundreds of French Camp Academy students in the radio station. While some students have trained only in production and on-air, others have trained in sales, music, and office work. Students can begin training their 10th-grade year and must express a desire to work in radio. Several of our students have continued to work with us on a part-time basis after graduation from FCA.
WFCA is a commercial non-profit radio station that has grown from 10 customers in 1984 to over 250 today, and with some of the original 10 still with us. Our sales have grown from $10,000 to over $700,000, and all “profit” goes to support French Camp Academy.
WFCA is located on the historic Natchez Trace Parkway on mile marker 181 on the campus of FCA.
WFCA became the flagship station for Mississippi State University sports in 1999.
